Old Oak Farm Nurseries is a family-run garden centre in Hoghton, near Preston, serving gardeners across Lancashire including Chorley, Blackburn, and the surrounding villages.
We’re open seven days a week from 1st February to 30th November, Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. You can keep up to date with us on our Google Business Page.

Autumn is a good time for planting shrubs, trees and hardy perennials while the soil still retains some warmth.

What to plant and do in your garden this October
October is a great month to get a few important garden jobs sorted before winter. The soil can still hold enough warmth for planting, making this a good time to add shrubs, trees and hardy perennials, fill gaps in borders and refresh pots and containers with autumn colour. Spring-flowering bulbs are also a big focus this month. Daffodils, crocus, hyacinths and other spring bulbs can be planted now, while tulips can generally wait until later in autumn.
