Nothing quite sets off a garden like a perfect lawn, but this requires more than a regular cut. To be a thing of beauty requires a few straightforward routine tasks; see below for essential autumn lawn care steps.

The first step in your autumn lawn maintenance regime is to inspect the lawn to see if thatch has built up. If you can't see soil between the blades of grass scarify the lawn to remove unwanted debris. This lets air and light penetrate to improve the health of the soil and grass. Work in different directions and then remove the thatch. A spring tine rake can be used for this or if you want an option that requires less effort use a wheeled scarifier; we have both in stock at our Garden Nursery in Preston.
Areation of the lawn improves drainage and stimulates the growth of new roots. This can be done using a garden fork. Put the fork in as deep as possible, but at least 7.5cm, tilt the fork and pull back a little so you can see the area rise.

For a top quality lawn the next step is to top dress, this will improve drainage and vigour of the grass as well as removing minor hollows.

Autumn Aftercut kills moss for a healthier, stronger lawn to withstand winter stress conditions. This will also green up your lawn whilst avoiding excessive growth prior to winter.
