Perennial Plants for Colour, Pollinators & Cottage Gardens
Perennials are a great choice if you want plants that come back year after year. Many die back over winter and return again in spring, while others keep their foliage through the colder months, helping to give the garden interest for longer.
At Old Oak Farm Nurseries, we grow and sell a wide range of herbaceous perennials, often known as cottage garden plants. They’re ideal for adding colour, filling borders, encouraging bees and other pollinators, and creating a garden that changes naturally through the seasons.
When Are Perennials Available?
Many perennials are dormant through winter, so the range starts to build from March as plants begin to grow again. April and May are usually the best months for choice, with more varieties becoming available each week as the season gets going.
Choosing the Right Perennials
Different perennials suit different parts of the garden. Some prefer full sun, while others are better for shade or partial shade. Some are happier in damp ground, while others need well-drained soil.
Heights can vary from low-growing plants for the front of borders to taller varieties that add structure and impact further back. If you’re not sure what will work best, bring a photo of the area and we’ll help you choose suitable plants.
